Château Féodal de La Roche-en-Ardenne

It's impossible to talk about La Roche without mentioning its castle. Overlooking the Ourthe, its ruins bear witness to a very distant past, probably dating back to Antiquity.

A feudal castle dating back to the 9th century, it protected the many boatmen who passed through the town, which was a veritable crossroads for roads and rivers. La Roche was granted town status in 1331, giving it the right to surround itself to surround itself with walls. In 1681, Louis XIV's army used the castle as a logistical base for the royal troops going to fight in the Liège and Aachen regions, and its appearance changed radically. Abandoned in the 18th century, the inhabitants of Roch used its stones to build their homes.

Finally bought by the state in 1852, it is now visited by many tourists, and some nights it is even said that the ghost of Berthe haunts the place.
