The most beautiful panoramas at a glance

Who doesn't love expansive natural panoramas, impressive views of centuries-old castles or photo spots that only locals know about? Due to its geology, which is characterised by numerous valleys and plateaus, Éislek offers many viewpoints. These are more or less easy to reach on foot or by car. The most beautiful are listed below.

A glimpse into history - castles, palaces and more

Who doesn't know that feeling - a castle perched high up on a rocky outcrop that can be seen from several kilometres away? It casts a spell over people and literally invites them to visit it. Éislek has a rich history and was situated along important trade and communication routes in the Middle Ages. This is why numerous castles and fortresses were built in the region.

Luxembourg's most famous castle is probably Vianden Castle, which can be viewed from a distance from various angles. If you are travelling by car, it is best to drive to the viewing platform on the Route de Diekirch. For hikers, there are numerous viewpoints that show the impressive building from different perspectives.

Other medieval fortresses, such as the castles in Brandenburg and Bourscheid, can also be seen from afar.

On the Sûre & Our - fascinating river bends

The Sûre, which forms the Upper Sûre lake and meanders from the western border of Éislek to Diekirch, has carved out deep valleys over the millennia. Numerous hiking trails lead along the hills, from which you can enjoy impressive views of the river bends. Two of these viewpoints are particularly well known:

  •  Gringlee (Lipperscheid): Here you can discover the river bend near Bourscheid-Moulin. On bright days, you can even recognise Bourscheid Castle in the distance. Picnic benches invite you to enjoy the view in peace.
  • Kuelebierg (Esch-sur-Sûre, in German Esch-Sauer): A well-known viewpoint that can only be reached on foot and offers a magnificent view of the town, which is nestled in a horseshoe-shaped meander.

The Our, which forms the eastern border of Éislek between Luxembourg and Germany, also winds its way through the valley. Viewpoints such as Niklosbierg or Waldhof Falkenstein on the German side offer breathtaking views of the river Our and its loops.

Tales, legends and historical anecdotes

Some viewpoints are the setting for exciting anecdotes or myths. For example, Napoleonsknäppchen in Bourscheid, from where you can see for dozens of kilometres in good weather.

German soldiers used the lime tree standing there as a sentry post during the First World War. The tree, which was planted in honour of Napoleon's son, was felled during the Second World War. Today there is a newly planted lime tree, a viewing platform and a telescope.

Another place steeped in history is the Deiwelselter near Diekirch, a dolmen that once served as a burial site. Today, the viewing point offers a view of the town of Diekirch.

There are also stories and legends surrounding other viewpoints.

Simply beautiful! - Enjoy nature

Other viewpoints simply invite you to unwind. Some offer picnic benches, others are popular with locals for romantic excursions, and some can only be reached after a challenging climb - but hikers are rewarded with spectacular panoramas.

  •  Molberlee (Hoscheid): The Molberlee rock ridge is a narrow, spectacular path that lies in the middle of a unique landscape. Anyone undertaking a hike here should wear sturdy footwear and be free from vertigo. A must for experienced hikers, as there are hardly any comparable places in Luxembourg. Those who appreciate the Molberlee will also find the Sideschlee near Troisvierges and the Ueweschleed near Kautenbach fascinating - both offer similar, albeit less dramatic, hiking experiences.
  •  Burfelt panoramic platform: This platform rises 70 metres above the surface of the Upper Sûre lake and offers a panoramic view that is second to none. The platform itself is an architectural masterpiece and blends seamlessly into the landscape. Here you can enjoy the beauty of nature in an impressive way.
